Boarding school “Our
Home” in Tomilino
Moscow – Russian Federation
Main Project of the Rotary Club Moscow International,
2003 / 2004
Boarding school
“Our Home” for orphans is located in village Tomilino, Lyuberetsky
district at a distance of about 30 minutes by car from centre of
Moscow.
The institution consists of three buildings, one of which is school
and the other two were conceived as living houses for children.
In
the orphanage are accommodated 210 children and teenagers, among them
there are 93 orphans or children, who were left without parents’
care, the other 117 come from families of so called risky groups.
23
children are not yet of school age, they are in the delicate age of 4
– 7 years, 11 teenagers live in the social hotel, the other
schoolchildren in the age of 11 – 18 years are taught at other
institutions providing general education.
The boarding school was inaugurated in 1956, the building is old and
partially in need of repairs. Some time before the Administration of
the city Lyubertsy has made major repairs of the living buildings
belonging to the boarding school.
In
the years 1999 – 2002 the boarding school was closed. The stay of
children in such premises was not possible any more. Since 2001 the
premises can be used again.
With the children works 63 persons, among them 43 teachers; there is a
dining-hall in the building but without dish-washing machine.
The children in Tomilino are short of many things, especially of
clothes, shoes, journals, books, hygienic means for maintaining
health. On the school-building the roof should be also repaired. The
own workshop for professionally oriented education of children is in
awkward condition.
Equipping the school with a special computer class-room was the dream
of these children since several years.
We
the Rotary Club Moscow International are supporting this boarding
school for orphans and are fulfilling some of the wishes of these nice
children as follows:
·
In November 2003 a complete
new computer class-room with 15 working places was handed over from
our Rotary Club to the school. The computer working places are
brand-new with printer equipped and were handed over by our Club on 26th
of November 2003, during a festivity and in the presence of our Club
president Mr. Tiberius Braun and the director of the boarding school
Mrs. Irina Abramova and other 15 Rotarians from our Club!
A special substantial donation we received from the
concert pianist Mrs. Lisa Leonskaja during her concert in Moscow in
September 2003 , who supports our boarding school project in Tomilino
as well.
·
Additionally we will equip
during this Rotarian year the workshop of boarding school with devices
and instruments for a total value of 5.000 Euro, so that the children
could obtain good professional education what at the moment is not
possible because there are no machine - tools and no technical
instruments at all available.
·
The additional matching grant
No. 22998 from Rotary Foundation USA for 8.000 US $ was received and
the boarding school will be provided with laboratory equipment and
school furniture during this Rotary Year 2003-2004. Involved are also
two USA Rotary Clubs in this matching grant the RC of Moultrie and the
RC of Thomasville.
Additionally
during our visits of the boarding school we have handed out clothes,
copy machine, books, chocolates and other small items for the
orphanage kitchen as well.
